What document types does RepliGo Server support?

RepliGo allows users to view all popular formats: Adobe® PDF, Microsoft® Word, PowerPoint® and Excel (including Microsoft Office 2007 file formats), OpenOffice, wps, csv, zip, and fax and image files such as .bmp, .gif, .png, .jpg and .tif.

How is RepliGo different from the built-in BlackBerry document viewer?

The BlackBerry document viewer is primarily used to get a quick preview of email attachments and web-based documents. RepliGo Server enhances these features of the BlackBerry while providing the following additional benefits:

  • RepliGo presents all document types in a consistent fashion and in their original page layout — displaying the original fonts, tables and graphics on every page. With RepliGo, there is only one interface for users to learn regardless of the document type being viewed.
  • RepliGo uses an exclusive document format to render documents, which allows for maximum speed and fidelity. Text is crisp and clear at all zoom levels.
  • RepliGo offers a convenient reading view that reformats pages into a single column, preserving the original fonts and intelligently ordering graphical elements such as tables and images. This approach provides additional context which makes it faster to read documents on mobile devices with small screens.
  • RepliGo extends beyond email and the web. Users can access documents on the network using their same Windows login credentials. This includes shared network drives, SharePoint, Exchange public folders and other content management systems through the use of the WebDAV protocol.
  • RepliGo directly supports network printing, Bluetooth printing and faxing.
  • RepliGo has strong support for the media card. Documents can be downloaded to the card and viewed offline with the same high-fidelity resolution.
  • RepliGo Server includes a copy of RepliGo Reader, the best native PDF viewer for BlackBerry smartphones.

How is RepliGo different from Documents To Go®?

Documents To Go Standard and Premium Edition are focused on editing Microsoft Office documents, whereas RepliGo is focused on remote document access, file management, printing, faxing and high-fidelity viewing. RepliGo and Documents To Go are very complementary products. For example, RepliGo can be used to download a document from SharePoint. Once downloaded, RepliGo can launch Documents To Go and allow you to edit the document. Here are some other differences between the products:

  • RepliGo is a client-server solution. This provides users with a direct connection to their network to access files, search for files, print and fax.
  • RepliGo preserves the exact fonts, graphics and layout of pages. Documents To Go primarily uses the fonts on the BlackBerry and displays documents in a layout best suited for editing.
  • RepliGo is very wireless-friendly and allows users to view documents a page at a time. Documents To Go requires that the entire document be downloaded and stored on the device.

What makes RepliGo better than other document viewing solutions?

Cerience is a pioneer in the mobile device and wireless industry. Since 2000, we have been developing and fine tuning our RepliGo technology with the specific intent of making documents truly useable on small screen devices. In fact, we created our own document format to accomplish this. Here are just a few reasons we are confident our solution is better:

  • Other solutions on the market today use picture-based formats to display documents. Pictures have several shortcomings:
    • First, they are compressed with a “lossy” technology (often JPEG), which leads to illegible text and fuzzy drawings – especially noticeable when you zoom in on a page to examine it in detail.
    • Second, pictures can often be very large to download over wireless, leading to slow load times. Pictures are also fixed in resolution, which means you need to download higher resolution pictures in order to zoom in on a page. Since picture formats were meant for photographs, they present special challenges when reading documents. For example, picture-based pages cannot be reformatted for easy reading, so you must scroll back and forth horizontally to read paragraphs. Also, you cannot click on hyperlinks displayed in a picture.
    • Lastly, pictures are a single page format and cannot be stored in a single, multipage file format, making it impossible to view documents in an offline scenario.
  • With RepliGo Server, every document passes through our intelligent conversion engine. Each page is carefully analyzed, compressed and repackaged for optimal wireless delivery. This has numerous advantages. Pages are smaller and quicker to download. Document layout and fidelity are preserved – allowing users to zoom in without loss in quality. Paragraph flow is understood so pages can be reformatted for easy reading. Navigation links are stored and made active in the final output. Plus, users can save entire documents in the RepliGo format to their media card and access them without a wireless connection.
  • In a nutshell, documents look and behave just like they do on your desktop – just as you would expect them to.

What is RepliGo Reader and why is it included with RepliGo Server?

  • Developed by Cerience, RepliGo Reader is the world’s leading native PDF viewing application for BlackBerry smartphones. It can directly open and display PDF files stored on memory cards without the need for any server software. Like RepliGo Server, RepliGo Reader can display PDF files in their full fidelity.
  • Cerience is including RepliGo Reader with RepliGo Server 3.0 so users have a single solution for all of their PDF viewing needs. RepliGo Reader and RepliGo Server are the perfect pair, allowing powerful yet distinct ways to work with PDF files. For example, RepliGo Server allows you to view PDF files interactively, without the need to store the original PDF file itself on your BlackBerry.
  • Alternatively, sometimes you want offline access to PDF files. In this situation, you might use RepliGo Server to download a PDF file to your media card and then use RepliGo Reader to view it. This is just one example of how the products complement each other.
