Introduction (top)

RepliGo™ represents a breakthrough in document conversion technology and mobility. In a matter of seconds, virtually any document you have on your PC can be transferred to your handheld device while maintaining the document’s original look and feel. This includes Microsoft® Office documents, Adobe® PDF files, Web pages and hundreds of other formats. Once on your device, documents can easily be viewed, printed, and shared with others using the supplied RepliGo Viewer.

RepliGo offers two methods of converting your documents.

1.
RepliGo Menu and Toolbar: This allows you to use the RepliGo menu and toolbar buttons within Microsoft® Office applications to quickly convert Office files. A toolbar button for converting Web pages with Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.5 or above is also included. Use these toolbar buttons to take full advantage of the new features in 2.0 such as hyperlinks and bookmarks.
2.
RepliGo Printer: Use the File > Print command in your application to “print” to the RepliGo Printer for conversion.
These operations are discussed in greater detail later in this guide.

Once the document has been converted on your desktop computer, it can then be synchronized with your handheld device and viewed using the RepliGo Viewer.

Document Conversion (top)

Converting Microsoft® Office documents

RepliGo is tuned to convert Microsoft® Office documents in an intelligent and innovative manner. To make working with and reading these documents a pleasant experience on handheld devices, RepliGo provides toolbar button add-in for Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint® which not only simplifies the conversion process, but allows it to optimize the document translation from these applications. For Office 2000, XP, and 2003, the toolbar allows such features as hyperlinks and bookmarks to be recognized in the original document and translated to the RepliGo version.

Click the Always trust macros from this source checkbox and then click Enable Macros. This screen verifies that you are trusting the source of the macro and it can be installed on your desktop computer. You will not see this dialog again once you have enabled the macro.

By choosing to include the Microsoft® Office Integration during the installation and enabling the RepliGo macro, the installer also inserts the RepliGo menu (See Figure 8) into Microsoft® Word, Excel, and PowerPoint® if those applications are present on the desktop computer.

Figure 8: The RepliGo Menu inside Microsoft® Office applications

Additionally, the RepliGo toolbar (See Figure 9) is installed for quick conversion of your document with the current settings. A convenient button launches the RepliGo Desktop Window for access to important information, program settings, links to technical support, documentation, demos, uninstall, and the ReadMe file. (Some links require a live Internet connection to access).

Converting Web pages from Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.5 or above

RepliGo installs the Microsoft® Internet Explorer integrated toolbar button if the checkbox for that option is checked during installation. The button is added to the toolbar inside Internet Explorer and gives you quick and easy access to converting web pages, conversion settings, and a conversion preview. It also greatly enhances the accuracy of the conversion over using the File > Print command.

Follow these simple steps to convert a Web page to a RepliGo document.

1.
Using Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, browse to the Web page you wish to convert.
2.
Click the RepliGo toolbar button. (See Figure 14). Click the arrow and select Conversion Preview to show preview window which allows you to adjust settings such as margins, background printing, frames settings, and more. Click the Conversion Setup... menu item to launch the settings dialog. (See Figure 15).
3.
Click Convert to start the conversion process.
4.
Synchronize your desktop computer and handheld device.

RepliGo will now have a “snapshot” of the Web page that was converted. You can view the Web page as you would any other document type. Note: Hyperlinks are kept active when using the RepliGo toolbar button or menu. When clicked, RepliGo Viewer will attempt to connect via the default browser.

The RepliGo Printer: (For converting documents other than Microsoft® Office or Internet Explorer documents) (top)

When converting documents that are not Microsoft® Office or Microsoft® Internet Explorer Web pages, you must use the RepliGo Printer. This special printer is for converting files other than native Microsoft® Office documents. (See Figure 16)

Figure 16: The RepliGo Printer

1.
Open your original document in its native application and launch the Print dialog (usually File > Print) and select the RepliGo printer. The conversion process takes over and creates a corresponding RepliGo document.
2.
HotSync your desktop computer with your handheld device to ensure that the new RepliGo document is sent to your device.
3.
For each document you want to convert, open it in its native application and repeat the steps above.

Your files will now be converted for viewing on your handheld device. Once synchronized with your desktop, the new files will be accessible in the RepliGo Viewer.

RepliGo Viewer (top)

RepliGo Viewer resides on your Palm OS® based device. It synchronizes and receives the documents that are converted on the desktop computer and displays, navigates, manages, mark ups, and prints your RepliGo files. Start RepliGo Viewer on your handheld device by tapping the RepliGo icon. This will launch RepliGo Viewer and display the existing RepliGo documents on your device in a list view if RepliGo Viewer does not currently have a file open.

RepliGo List View

When you start RepliGo Viewer it shows your converted documents in a list view. (See Figure 17).

In most cases, RepliGo can identify what application the document originated from and show the corresponding document icon. For example, if you convert a Microsoft Word document, the document icon in the list view will show a small Word icon next to the document name. Documents converted from Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Publisher, Internet Explorer, as well as, PDF, and Text files will have a their corresponding icon. For documents converted from all other applications, RepliGo Viewer substitutes its own document icon.

If the document resides on the memory card, you will also see a small memory card icon included in the lower right corner of the document icon.

You can choose to display only certain documents by specifiying what Category to show in the list view or you can show only the files in main memory or on the memory card or both. Set up your categories by tapping the RepliGo tab and selecting Categories... from the menu.

Figure 28: The Edit Categories dialog

Hyperlinks

RepliGo keeps hyperlinks from web pages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files intact. (See Figure 29). This means when you tap on a hyperlink in a RepliGo document, you will be prompted to allow for the device's default browser or email client to launch and attempt to connect to the specified URL or send email if it is an email link.

RepliGo recognizes internal or "named anchor" links within the same document and jumps to the appropriate location specified by the internal link.

*Notes:
1. Image maps (images with hyperlinks) in Word are not recognized.
2. RepliGo does not provide a live connection to the Internet.
3. You must use the RepliGo integrated toolbar button inside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for hyperlinks to be converted and recognized.

Printing from RepliGo Viewer (top)

RepliGo Viewer supports printing to infrared enabled printers manufactured by HP (Hewlett-Packard). The Palm OS® based handheld device must have infrared capabilities either integrated into the device or as an add-on component.

Devices that support Bluetooth such as Palm's Tungsten T and the Sony Clie NZ90 can print via Bluetooth to an HP Bluetooth enabled printer. See your device's documentation.

Text in documents printed from RepliGo Viewer is printed at a high resolution. Some graphs, charts, photos, and other images may have lost some of their original quality in the conversion process due to compression.

1.
Open a RepliGo document in RepliGo Viewer.
2.

Tap the Menu button on the Palm Graffiti area.

7.
Tap OK when you are satisfied with the print settings.
8.
Align your handheld device’s infrared port with the infrared port on your HP infrared enabled printer. The handheld device and the printer should be no more than 3 feet apart.
